Alabama
The eight scouts honored were William Benton Lee, James Richard Boozer, Heath William Brantley, Judson Thomas Mott Charles Hartwell Sims V, Cecil Wayne Dunnam Jr., Mark Anthony Black, Eric Roussell Jr. and William Taylor Deyampert. Boozer built raised flowerbeds at a retirement home. Black organized a book donation program to promote literacy at schools around Selma. Charles Sims renovated a food pantry.

Michael Rider started casting about for an Eagle Scout project as a 14-year-old. On Monday, the Aptos High School senior will celebrate his birthday, the completed reconstruction of a gazebo across the street from the Corralitos Market in Triangle Park and reaching a goal he set when he joined Cub Scouts 10 years ago.

Since becoming a Cub Scout in 1998, Brian McCormick, 18, has always kept his sights on becoming an Eagle Scout. Saturday, January 24th 2009 his vision will come true. McCormick’s service project took place at YMCA Camp Indian Springs. He planned and led scouts and adults in the building of a series of outdoor signs that is part of an interpretive trail of the underground spring system below YMCA Camp Indian Springs. McCormick engineered five trail signs explaining and interpreting the spring system.

After 11 years in scouting, 17-year-old Matthew Lingefelt will soon qualify for the organization’s highest honor, Eagle Scout. For his Eagle project, Lingefelt decided to construct and donate bookcases for this area, first to complete his Eagle project, and to say “Thank you from the Boy Scouts” to this important organization dedicated to literacy in the community.

Maryland
Troop 1575 recently honored two young men who achieved the highest rank in the organization of Boy Scouts of America. Keith Purvis and Robert Williams III, both 19, received the rank of Eagle Scout in front of more than 100 friends and family.

Christopher S. Daniel, a member of Boy Scout Troop 470, earned an Eagle Scout award in August. Daniel planned and built a labyrinth and garden behind Trinity Chapel at Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ on West Church Street for walking and meditation.

Tucker Heiler will receive Boy Scouting’s highest award, the Eagle Scout award, in a court of honor ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday at Haslett Community Church. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 97, chartered to Haslett Community Church, Heiler completed his service project at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. With the help of his mentor, James Windsand, he led the construction of three benches and an entry pergola that was put over the entryway of an existing memorial garden.

Jason Guerette is the 14th member of Hoboken’s Boy Scouts of America Troop 146 to reach the level of Eagle Scout. He organized a collection drive of baby clothes and materials and spent a troop day doing maintenance and playing with the children for Hudson Cradle, a non-profit infant and toddler care center for at-risk children in Jersey City.

The Revolutionary Trails Council Eagle Recognition Dinner was recently held on Jan. 6, at Harts Hill Inn in Whitesboro. All the Revolutionary Trails Council scouts who attained the highest rank in scouting, Eagle, during 2008 attended. This is the highest honor a Boy Scout can obtain. Scouts are pictured from left. Christopher Allen Cook, 13 will receive his Eagle Scout Award today, Jan. 11, at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury. For his Eagle Scout Project, he relandscaped two planters in front of Overton Elementary School, using 40 volunteers with over 150 service hours.

Ali Joseph Alherimi of Barberton was honored by a Barberton City Council resolution for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Ali, a senior at Barberton High, is the son of Yaser and Donna Alherimi.

Boy Scout Troop 30 will be honoring Scouts Kory Busby, Bryan Chaplin and Garrett Klutts Sunday, at 2 p.m. at Poteau First United Methodist Church. Busby, Chaplin and Klutts will receive BSA’s highest honor, Eagle Scout.

Thanks to Nathan Desautels, campers at the Spring Lake Campground in Glendale will be able to sing songs and toast marshmallows around the campfire. For his Eagle Scout project, Desautels, the son of Rick and Susan Desautels of 375 Cherry Farm Road, Harrisville, built an amphitheater at the campground complete with benches and firepit. “My Eagle Scout Project was the greatest achievement in my life,” says Desautels, a senior at Burrillville High School who will attend his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on May 17.

Jack Bjork, 14, built and installed cabinets and a movable locker for musical instruments and supplies in honor of Danny Witte, a Highland Park High School graduate and Eagle Scout who died last year.
Trace Bivens, 19, organized the clearing of picnic grounds and constructed four picnic tables at Grace Presbyterian Village, a retirement community.
Connor Kelleher, 18, built a shed for donkeys Nip and Tuck at the Dallas Heritage Village.
Garrett McGee, 16, and volunteers built step stools for water fountains, painted racing stripes on playground sidewalks of Dobie Primary School, filled the large playground sandbox with sand and constructed a cover to protect the box from weather and animals.

Daniel Kyle Utley and Michael Allen Turner will be honored by receiving the rank of Eagle Scout at the First United Methodist Church of Mineola on Jan. 31. Utley’s Eagle Scout Project involved planning arid directing a major community service project. He led in the construction and painting of 12 portable sideline benches for the Mineola Soccer Association.
