Marshall County residents will be better able to enjoy a section of the lake near Warrenton, thanks to Eagle Scout Edward Linker. Linker took on the service project to complete Eagle Scout requirements for earning the top rank.

Not in the wild, but it was Eagle Scout Louis Robles Jr., 18, of Pico Rivera helping an injured red-tailed hawk at the Whittier Narrows Nature Center. “I was interested in helping the Whittier Narrows Nature Center and asked if they had any projects for me,” he said. “They wanted to adopt a red-tailed hawk, and I saw this as an opportunity to research and create a living environment for this hawk,” Robles said.

Boy Scout Troop 121, Iron Horse District, Golden Empire Council honored four scouts in an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony on March 8 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay. The four scouts achieving the rank of Eagle scout were Kapil Kishore Yedidi, Ryan Spenser Stevenson, Hayden Matthew Stevenson and Jason Davis Lee.

Will Bartlett, of Troop 22 in South Tampa, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor ceremony at Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Will’s Eagle Scout project involved increasing security measures at a local elementary school.

Christopher Leto will receive the honor of Eagle Scout this month. His Eagle Scout project was construction of a prayer walk and garden for the church.

Seth Martin, Troop 95 of Shady Grove, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in 2008. The ceremony, held at Cove Valley Youth Camp in Cove Gap, was performed by members of the Order of the Arrow Guneukitschik Lodge Ceremony Team.

Kevin Daryl Ferguson II, a member of Boy Scout Troop 358, recently reached the rank of Eagle Scout. For his project, Ferguson selected the Jim Martin Wildlife Park in Gadsden. He secured funding for and constructed park benches for the walking trail.

Medfield’s Boy Scout Troop 89 held an Eagle Court of Honor at the United Church of Christ on Sunday March 29. Scouts Benjamin Lester and Brandon Sepe were honored and recognized for their outstanding achievements by their peers, several state and local officials, plus family and friends. Benjamin’s Lester’s Eagle Scout Service Project involved painting and renovating the exterior of the Visitor’s Center at Rocky Woods Reservation in Medfield. Brandon Sepe’s Eagle Scout Service Project involved developing and building visual aids for physics experiments to help teach middle school students at Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole.

Brandon Newell of Rochester became an Eagle Scout at his Court Of Honor held on Jan. 17. Committee member Scott Hahn described Newell’s Eagle Service Project, which was to paint the restrooms in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven.

Two Livonia teens — Mason Halseth and Rushi Patel — recently became Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in Boy Scouts of America. Mason’s Eagle Scout project took place at the Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, where he and his group of volunteers worked to complete a database for various sections of the cemetery. This involved clearing and cleaning overgrown tombstones so they could be photographed and their data collected. Rushi’s Eagle Project was to build a 50-foot split-rail fence at Nankin Mills Park in Westland. This Wayne County Park was establishing a “grow zone” with plants, shrubs and small trees, which will help creeks and the Rouge river by protecting it from run-off pollutants.

Thurston High School alumnus Charles Feutz was honored last month on his achievement of obtaining the ranking of Eagle Scout. More than 100 people attended a ceremony at Thurston High School, where Feutz received his medal from Township Supervisor Tracey Schultz Kobylarz. Feutz’s project was to send care packages to injured combat soldiers stationed in Combat Stress Relief Units in Iraq and Afghanistan. Charles organized a can and bottle drive to raise funds for the cost of shipping the materials to the soldiers.

Mounds View High School senior Ross Hoppe knew that not all people have the means to see a musical performance. That’s why he decided to bring the music to them. Hoppe earned his Eagle Scout badge by organizing an 11-piece mini-orchestra to play at Scandia Shores Retirement Community for Mother’s Day 2007. The cello-playing Hoppe recruited 10 of his Mounds View High orchestra members to make the performance a reality.

Four members of the Gothenburg Boy Scout Troop 177 recently received scouting’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout Award. New Eagle Scouts in Gothenburg are Tommy France, Trevor Franzen, Cody Larson and Anthony Reinhard. Eagle Scout projects for the four honorees were: France and Larson, each with playground equipment at Dudley Elementary. Franzen, repaired cement railing on the southeast corner of Lake Avenue.. Reinhard—sidewalks at the Gothenburg Historical Museum.

At their respective Eagle Scout Boards of Review, Timothy and James Bracciante were found worthy of the rank of Eagle Scout. In honor of this achievement, Troop 55 of the Pitman United Methodist Church has scheduled a joint Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Monday evening, May 4, at 7 p.m. at the Pitman United Methodist Church. For his Eagle Scout project, Timothy, 18, supervised a crew that restored the building and grounds of Shertle Park in Pitman. The restroom building was repainted, the landscaping was redone, a storage building was also repainted and a handicapped-accessible picnic table was added to the park. James organized and planned further work on Shertle Park. His crew came in several months after his brother’s crew. They spent many hours landscaping and pruning the park entrance. The gazebo was repaired and refinished and the 75-foot-tall flagpole was also repainted. Shertle Park was returned to a condition of which Pitman can truly be proud.

Peter Bellizzi has volunteered in his community for 10 years, ever since he joined Boy Scout Troop 70. The 18-year-old Highland High School student worked his way up to earn the Eagle Scout rank in February, an honor achieved only by two or three Scouts in his troop a year. Bellizzi also conducted a leadership project to qualify for the Eagle rank. He planned the budget for it and gathered 10 to 20 people to work on home improvements to the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Highland.

Cody Alan Stewart, 17, son of Daron and Cathy Stewart of Rockwell, earned his Eagle Scout Award on March 26 at Troop 317 Court of Honor Award meeting. For his Eagle Scout project, he organized a team of Scouts to build benches along a walking trail at the Rowan County Wildlife Association.

Andrew Sokolich, a senior honors student at Cuyahoga Heights High School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 361 at St. Therese Parish in Garfield Heights. For his Eagle project, he led several volunteers in the restoration of the St. Joseph Shrine on the Knights of Columbus property.

Joshua R. Scarcella, 18, son of Richard J. and Sandra A. Scarcella, Leesport, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned and supervised the planting of six shade trees on the grounds of Wernersville Fire Company. The project was conducted in conjunction with the Wernersville Shade Tree Commission.

The following students have been promoted to Eagle Scout, the highest level of recognition in the Boy Scouts: Cory McKay Allison, 13, son of Brent and Melanie Allison of Bee Cave, poured a concrete slab for picnic tables and installed barbecue grills to create a place to host activities at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bee Cave. Kody Lee-Allen Dyer, 15, son of Terri Johnston-Dyer of Cedar Creek, made campus improvements at Barton Hills Elementary School in Austin. He led students, adults, Scouts and other community members in creating a character-education mural on the school’s cafeteria stage.

Travis D. Martin, 16, of Denton was presented his Eagle Scout Award on Scout Sunday, Feb. 8. For his Leadership Service Project, Travis designed and coordinated the construction and installation of the Vanishing Prairie Nature Trail markers at the Johnson Branch Unit on Lake Ray Roberts.

Basil Fedun was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor March 7 at the University of Mary Washington. For his Eagle community service project, Basil conducted an extensive recovery and documentation effort to restore the Masonic Cemetery in downtown Fredericksburg. The documentation included more than 200 photo-graphs and descriptions of the deteriorating tombstones to help preserve the cemetery’s history.
