Justin Lyon volunteers at the St. Tammany Humane Society and felt that he wanted his project to be something that would benefit that organization. After consultation with the people in charge, he decided to provide them with bat boxes, which are placed in small trees and are designed to attract bats to the area. Each box can hold about 200 bats. The bats help to control the mosquito population.
Brock Hall also will graduate with his two Eagle Scout buddies from Fontainebleau High. He knows exactly what his future entails. “We saw an ad that they had all of these donated trees following Katrina, and they had no one to plant them. I decided I could organize that and I gathered a work force that put in 2,000 hardwood trees. The park had lost about 80 percent of its trees so I felt this was a good thing.”
