To Prove My Point on Scouting Heroism
Posted by admin under: recognition .
Just as I was saying that some Scouts do heroic things without the national awards to recognize it this story from Thomas Lester at the Carroll News comes along to prove it.
Kristopher, who just turned 9 on Jan. 7, kept his wits about him, called 911 and then helped direct emergency personnel when his mother, Theresa, had an adverse reaction to a mix of household chemicals on Jan. 3.
…
“He didn’t know what was happening,” Theresa said. “He just knew I couldn’t talk and I kept holding my chest because it hurt to breathe, so he thought I was having a heart attack.”
Fortunately, Kristopher learned about 911 while he was in Cub Scouts. He calmly called 911 and gave the dispatcher his address and telephone number, and by the time emergency personnel arrived, he gave them Theresa’s medication, her ID, his dad’s cell phone number, and told them her birthday.
…
“When I called 911, I told them the address and everything, the phone number, what kind of medicine she has,” Kristopher said. “Then they came and took my mother and put her in the ambulance. Me and my dad went in the car to the emergency room. We got to see her, she was feeling better.”
Wow! When I was eight I think I was trying to earn my gold star for properly reciting my address and phone number at school. I certainly wasn’t volunteering it while my mother was strangling on the floor. How together is Kristopher? Thank God his mom is all right now.
