Kentucky’s Georgia
Posted by admin under: recruitment; safety .
Mike Adams at firstcoastnews.com brings us the newest entry in the pantheon of heroes: Georgia Eck. She is an eight year old Brownie Girl Scout living in Kentucky. Her little sister started choking on a ball bearing and Georgia remembered learning the Heimlich maneuver (or stomach thrusts if you want to use the non-copyrighted term) in Girl Scouts. She used the technique to shoot the ball bearing across the room.
The site also has a video version of the story and you get a sense of how cute and normal little Georgia is. Definitely go watch it.
P.S.: Okay I feel like a heel for pointing this out, but you’re not actually supposed to do stomach thrusts if the victim can breathe. You’re supposed to encourage the person to cough the object out. So what? Georgia is still a hero. You just need to get your First Aid training refreshed if the whole coughing/choking thing was news to you.
