Pair of Boy Scout Deaths
Posted by admin under: safety .
There are two reports of deaths during Boy Scouts outings today. One is a 17 year old Boy Scout and one is a 56 year old leader. It’s shocking to see this happen back to back especially since we’ve been having good news with lost kids lately.
With five miles left to go on a 20-mile hike, Michael Sclawy-Adelman looked like the heat was getting to him.
“It appeared he was a little overheated and a little dizzy, so we sat him down, gave him some water and put his feet up and let him rest,” said scoutmaster Howard Crompton, who was leading the 17-year-old and two younger boys on the hike Saturday through Big Cypress National Preserve in the Everglades.
“Then he stopped breathing.”
The intensive effort to save Sclawy-Adelman’s life failed. The Weston teen was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m., roughly an hour and 10 minutes after Crompton’s first 911 call for help.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death and the results of a toxicology report are pending, but Sclawy-Adelman’s parents said they did not want an autopsy and on Monday declined to discuss any possible cause.

Melanie Winyall said her brother, Daniel Fadrowski, was at a Boy Scout outing on Saturday afternoon when he died while scuba diving in a quarry.
Fadrowski, 56, of Sykesville, Md., was an active volunteer in his 14-year-old son’s Boy Scout troop, Winyall said Sunday. She said her brother was in excellent physical shape for a man his age, and word of what happened Saturday surprised everyone in his family.
It appears that all of those warnings we get as part of our outdoor training are not unreasonable.
