Tent Fireball
Posted by admin under: safety .
I know this story from Hiker Hell isn’t Scout related, but like all the stories B-Real shares it has to do with the same activities we enjoy and this story just left me shaking my head. It’s only worse because the man should have known better.
A 64-year-old man suffered burns to his arms when a gas cylinder sent a fireball into his tent. The man was camping in Gwynedd, UK.
The man used a lighter for light so he can change the canister of his stove. But when he struck the lighter, he ignited the fireball. (Ever heard of a flashlight or headlamp?)
Authorities said he made two major mistakes for this incident to happen: he changed a gas cylinder inside a tent; and he used an open flame to see what he was doing.
It seems obvious, but this exemplifies why there is no open flame allowed when changing or refilling your fuel. Fortunately, the guy wasn’t critically injured.
