Comparing Scouts
Posted by admin under: scouters .
A blog named Always Random Thoughts is a blog by a student that is free flow, but seems to circle around the subject of non-profit organizations (mainly Goodwill). Although there are no links or source references the blog information sounds legit which makes the comparison between Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts interesting.
In comparing Boy Scouts of America with Girl Scouts of the USA, I found them both to meet all 20 standards for charity accountability. I found their program expenses to be: Boy Scouts at $117,072,000 and Girl Scouts at $112,276,000. The Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts was compensated $1,060,089 and the CEO of the Girl Scouts’ was $446,816.
Total income for the Boy Scouts was $194,464,000 and their funds were used as follows: 90% for their programs, less than 1% for fund raising, and 10% for administrative purposes. Their total assets were $873,954,000 and their liabilities were $186,116,000.
Total income for the Girl Scouts was $127,335,000 and their funds were used as follows: 94% for their programs, 1% for fund raising, and 5% for administrative purposes. Their total assets were $194,201,000 and their liabilities were $13,241,000.
What this means to me is that although their income and expenses vary, both organization use most of their income to fund their programs. I noticed that quite a number of organizations use a lot of their income for administrative purposes. With Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the USA, almost all of their income goes to provide programs based on their missions.
That what I’ve been saying. Well, not the details just that we’ve been providing a lot of program for kids. There are critics out there who like to try to point to a poor ratio of income to program expenditures. I guess it’s what your definition of administrative is.
Another interesting thing there is the salaries. Even when they run the entire organization women can’t seem to get fifty cents on the dollar for the same work a man is doing. Is that what those paychecks seem to indicate? Not really. I think it just means that BSA is bigger and the CEO gets more money to run a bigger operation. It does frost me just a bit to pay a million dollars for someone to tell others what to do. You know how many boxes of microwave popcorn that is? Me either, but I bet it’s a lot. I guess it takes a lot of money to hold a job where there are a lot of people out there guaranteed to really dislike you. Here. Have some money. That’ll make you feel better. It works for me.
