Don Murphy Lives On In Scout Derbies

Posted by admin under: scouters .

The creator of the Pinewood Derby, Don Murphy, passed away this month. The Daily Breeze has a good article talking about his invention and memories of those who knew him. His memorial was this past Saturday. The response to the original article was such that the newspaper had a follow-up story with more reflections by those who knew and were influenced by Mr. Murphy.

My own Cub Scout Pack just completed our annual planning where, of course, the pinewood derby was selected as an annual event to be conducted next spring. Thanks to Don Murphy for his invention and the time I have spent and will spend with my sons on this exciting and fun project.
