Babysitter Training from Red Cross

Posted by admin under: Training .

One of the popular programs in my council is the babysitting training conducted through the American Red Cross. They have a course that allows 11 to 15 year olds to become certified babysitters. It reinforces the lessons of leadership and responsibility taught in the Girl Scouts of the USA and even the Boy Scouts of America. Let’s be honest, though, babysitting is a female-dominated program.

Our troop has been conducting troop babysitting once per month in order to give parents a night out and to raise funds for our trip to Washington D.C. next year. While none of the families using our service has really been concerned about certification, the program helped the troop leaders feel more confident in the girls’ abilities to handle the children in their care. Additionally, the girls now have confidence in their abilities as well as certification from a well recognized and trusted source.

Raven Simone of “That’s So Raven” fame is a spokesperson for the program and has a part in the training program. There are a variety of training modules for babysitter training that include first aid, CPR, and even resume preparation so those trained can properly present their credentials. Contact your local American Red Cross to find out if there are any babysitter training courses available for your Scouts.
