Financial Literacy Event for Girls
Posted by admin under: Training .
The Girl Scouts of the USA is helping to host an event by the Womens’ Presidents Organization that will teach financial literacy which I guess is a fancy way to say earning, saving, and keeping track of your money. From the quotes of the founder of the WPO you’d think that girls are at a disadvantage learning about money issues, but I can assure you that boys are equally clueless.
“The single most important factor for women in contributing to a stable existence is to be financially secure. It is equally as important to a young woman as it is to a young man.” Said Marsha Firestone, Ph.D. president and founder of the WPO, “understanding of money and finance empowers women in all aspects of life. Too many of our girls grow up without knowledge in this area.”
“This wonderful event allows young women to learn first-hand from successful women business owners and entrepreneurs,” said Sharon Lechter. Sharon, a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy and a national board member of WPO, helped create and organize this event. “WPO and Sam’s Club are providing these young women with vital financial skills
that will not only prepare them to survive in the world they face, but thrive in it!”
I love this event regardless of the focus on gender. When high school hands you a diploma and shows you the door you are completely unprepared to start a business. If you’ve been doing other things outside of school you may have learned how to do it. So anything that can help educate our kids on what it takes to get smart about money is a win in my book. Unfortunately, there are only 10 locations where this event is taking place and none of them are near me.
The Financial Literacy Program will be held at the following Sam’s Club Locations: Latham, NY, Canton, MI, Cheektowaga, NY, Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, Secaucus, NJ, Las Vegas, NV, Cinnaminson, NJ, Renton, WA, Tampa, FL
I like the financial literacy lessons being taught in Las Vegas. Hey, what better place to learn about how you should be saving your money, right?
