KISMIF Collection for Cub Parents
Posted by admin under: Training; recruitment .
After being out a week and trying to catch up on stuff I’m going through my RSS feeds and KISMIF.org has been unearthing some great stuff. First is info that there is a new, online parent guide for Cub Scouts.
I remember when my wife and I were getting our first child into Cub Scouts. I had been a Cub Scout for about a year as a kid so I had some familiarity with the program, but I didn’t understand it very much. Cub Scouts most often sees parents coming into the Scouting experience for the very first time. They don’t know the difference between Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. They don’t know that the levels are based on age rather than achievement. They have no idea that they will be asked to participate with their boys.
I just read the guide and it’s okay. It comes off as more of a ScoutParents pitch than Cub Scout program education, but it’s still good information. Some people might worry about it being a little too straightforward about trying to get new parents to pitch in to help, but I’ve found that those who want to help get annoyed if they aren’t asked and those who won’t help just say no so there’s no harm in asking.
The online guide is a PDF that you can print out and distribute at a den or pack meeting or, better yet, a recruitment meeting after parents have indicated a willingness to join. Thanks to KISMIF.org for letting us all know about it.
