Posted by admin under: Training; safety .
A former Boy Scout leader received a two year suspended sentence Friday after pleading guilty to indecent contact with a child. 78-year-old Irvin Barron was arrested in April.
The victim reportedly told his parents the contact happened while Barron and the teenager were working alone on a scout project. Barron will be on probation for the next two years.
Barron’s name will be added to the state’s sex offender registry and the judge ordered he have no contact with minors. Barron was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for 46 years.
It won’t happen to your son because you’ll be there, right? You’ve talked to your son about not being alone with the adults even though you know and trust them, right? You’ve taken the youth protection training online even though you’re not a leader because you want to know what the BSA’s policies are, right? Right. That’s how you know it won’t happen to your son.
