1953 Jamboree

Chris Jepson at the O.C. History Roundup blog has a great picture from 1953 showing President Nixon addressing the Boy Scouts at the 1953 National Boy Scout Jamboree (although he was Vice-President at the time). He also relates that a short film from that event will be given by Ralph Whitford who used to be a Sea Scout leader. The picture shows those nifty 50’s Scout uniforms, but it also shows the boys and leaders crowded around Nixon’s lectern without a hint of Secret Service personnel. Different times, I’m sure.
