Check Out This Cub Scout’s Abdominals
Posted by admin under: Uncategorized .
As in abdominal thrusts, aka the Heimlich maneuver. It has taken a couple of years to clear the paperwork through the national office, but a Cub Scout (looks like he’s a Boy Scout now) has been awarded the Merit award for saving a classmate’s life according to his local Fox news station.
An 11-year-old Cub Scout was honored for saving a classmate’s life by doing the Heimlich maneuver during his math class.
Richard Silverman-King was awarded the Scouting Medal of Merit. Silverman-King had learned the Heimlich two days before the incident at first aid training with Boys Scout Troop 90.
The two boys were in the same math class last March when they were nine years old. Silverman-King said he saw his friend put his hands around his throat and turn purple.
The national awards are rare with less than 250 presented nationwide each year. They are presented for putting in practice Scouting skills/and/or ideals in the performance of some outstanding act of service of rare or exceptional character that reflects an uncommon concern for the well-being of others.
Good job, Richard! You’re a credit to Scouts around the world!
