Cubs: Off to a Rocky Start
Posted by admin under: Uncategorized .
Last night was our first official pack meeting. We’d come to the previous one, but this was where the guys were actually getting awards. I only have 3 boys in my den. One didn’t show. We couldn’t get into the church to set up our induction ceremony. Out of the 15 people I’d tried to recruit to come to the meeting to learn more about our pack, only 1 showed up (but he’ll probably be joining my den, yay!). The patches were still on back-order. It was kind of sucky. I really have to buckle down and get my den plan done. I’ve been enjoying the rare moments between sleep, work, and Scouts so much that I’ve been putting it off.
My wife and I are in charge of two of the upcoming outings over the next three months. At least we’ve done a lot of prep work on that and out of the 10 kids in the pack, most seem enthusiastic about them. It wasn’t too entertaining for the boys, which I always fear, because we were doing a straight “They went to such-and-such. Here’s your patch. Congratulations”. We’ll need to do a better job with that. For October’s theme of “Adventures in Reading” I’ve got an idea of having the guys come busting through the pages of a book like those football players do at the start of their games. I’ve got to experiment with that at den meetings to make sure their 40 pound bodies don’t bounce off the paper.
At least my Tiger is still raring to go. He loves the excuse to get together with his buddies and I love the excuse to get him used to being part of a group that works together and goes outdoors to do stuff. Plus, he looks good in orange. Here’s hoping that I actually hold my own feet to the fire and get some serious planning done.
