Muslim Girl Scouts in Minneapolis

Mankato has a CBS/Fox affiliate that did a story on how some Muslim girls are assimilating into American culture with Girl Scouts of the USA. The story is transcribed as well as shown in video. You can see the policy of Girl Scouts in action as the troop replaces “God” with “Allah” which is an approved form of the Girl Scout Promise.
One thing I was puzzled by was the following assertion.
One in every 10 American girls is a girl scout , about 2.6 million girls. The number has remained pretty steady for decades, but in the last few years it has been Hispanic, Asian and ”immigrant” girls who have accounted for the organization growth.
That doesn’t match with my experience. We live in the Los Angeles area so probably half of our girls have hispanic backgrounds, but almost none are first or second generation immigrants so mainly they’re all just American girls with similar or different ethnic backgrounds.
By the way, I prefer all-beef hot dogs, too (reference to dietary comment in story). Christian, Jewish, Muslim, it doesn’t matter. A better tasting hot dog is just plain better in anybody’s book. And as you will see if you go watch the video, s’mores are popular regardless of creed, too.
