President’s Volunteer Service Award
Posted by admin under: Uncategorized .
Scoutingnews.com just posted an article detailing that the Order of the Arrow has become an official certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. I know that the same opportunity exists for Girl Scouts, too, because we awarded this honor to one of the girls in my troop after she completed 50 hours of volunteer service through Girl Scouts and her church.
There are different levels of the award (as described here) starting at 50 hours and going all the way through 4,000 hours. Most of our Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops actively look for service projects to perform (some girls in my troop are going to be doing a beach clean-up this weekend) and this award is another way to ensure they receive recognition. Plus, it looks nifty on a college resume, don’t you think?
You may recall this is the same award that President Bush personally awarded to the Boy Scouts who organized the Order of the Arrow service projects called ArrowCorp5. It’s no wonder, then, that the Order of the Arrow was made a certifying organization. Here’s to cheerful service!
