Residents Rally to Replace Stolen Tents
Posted by admin under: Uncategorized .
We followed this story about a troop that had its tents stolen by some men who used them as their housing in a nearby park and damaged them. The Maryland Gazette is reporting that residents are rallying to help the troop replace their damaged property.
After the story hit the stands, Mr. Huppert and another former Scout, Dale Lindsay of Crofton, contacted the newspaper asking how they could help Troop 339 replace the damaged equipment.
The two men were put in touch with Craig Lindsay, the troop’s Scoutmaster. Mr. Huppert wrote a check to the troop Wednesday to replace one of the Alps Mountaineering tents. Dale Lindsay, no relation to Craig Lindsay, wrote a $2,500 check Thursday for the troop to “put them back where they started before the theft” on behalf of Lindsay and Associates consulting firm.
And Cheskis, Hooper, Schatz and Russell Family Dentistry, donated $1,000 to the Boy Scout troop to boost their equipment fund.
…
The donations came just one week after an assistant Scoutmaster discovered someone pried their way into two wood storage sheds at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church on Sept. 30 and stole the troop’s tents – worth $3,315. The thieves also made off a propane tank, two camping stoves, canned food and a wagon

Police linked a teenage boy who ran away from the Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health campus in Crownsville and a 20-year-old man to the crime. A notification for a juvenile citation has been issued for the teen, who police said they believe is in Kentucky, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the 20-year-old, charging him with fourth-degree burglary and theft over $500, said Sgt. John Gilmer, a county police spokesman.
Wow. What a great amount of support coming from the community so the troop can replace their trashed tents. See? There are good people all around us.
