California
With about 160 witnesses, these three of Amador county’s finest young men were awarded the elite honor of becoming Eagle Scouts. Christian Mullan was recognized for building a memorial garden at Pine Grove Elementary School. Dominic Grillo was honored for his landscaping project, also at Pine Grove Elementary. Patrick Lindecker received recognition for his work on replacing the bleachers at Pioneer Park.

Gordon “Gordy” Yates, 18, received his Eagle Scout Award on Sept. 13. By earning his Eagle rank, Yates has reached a pinnacle in scouting few achieve.

Massachusetts
Tom Martinez was honored in a Court of Honor for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The campfire ceremony took place at Camp Resolute, Bolton, while Troop 303 was participating in summer camp activities in July. For his project, Martinez supervised the building and installation of a kiosk for the canoe and boat launch on Robin Hill Road, Marlborough. The project also included general clean-up of trash at the site.

New York
Edward Valdes has achieved the Boy Scouts’ highest accolade. The 18-year-old Johnson City High School senior received the Eagle Scout badge this past September, the Boy Scouts’ greatest honor.

North Carolina
Peter Newby, 17, of Raleigh recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Scouting. He is a member of Troop 11, sponsored by Calvary Presbyterian Church. His Eagle project consisted of designing and supervising the construction of a walkway for his church, Christ Baptist Church. Newby, a junior at Grace Christian School, is the son of Justice Paul Newby of the state Supreme Court and his wife, Macon Tucker Newby. In obtaining the Eagle rank, Peter Newby joined his father, an older brother, an uncle and a cousin in achieving the honor.

North Dakota
Brian Abram Van Bruggen, Fargo, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was recognized at a ceremony Sept. 28 at Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo. Van Bruggen’s Eagle Scout project was to refinish blocks for the preschool at Hope Lutheran Church, Fargo.

South Carolina
When I was staying with Stacey and Ellen while their dad was recuperating, I promised Stacey I would be there for his Eagle Court of Honor. So last month I flew to Kansas to see my grandson receive the highest rank in Scouting, one that is earned by fewer than 2 percent of all Boy Scouts. It was a momentous occasion.

I am very, very, proud of you, Stacey Scott Jordan! Congratulations for a job well done.

Pennsylvania
Ian P. McCullough, 16, son of Kevin F. and Lisa S. McCullough, Birdsboro, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he organized and supervised a golf tournament to raise money to purchase an automated external defibrillator for St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Douglassville.

Charles M. Lindinger, 17, son of Eric Lindinger, Lebanon, and Boonying Yetter, Conshohocken, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he supervised the repairing and painting of walls and a stairwell at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Lebanon.

Zachary E. Bordner, 18, son of Harold R. and Patricia M. Bordner, Centre Township, has received the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he removed a waterfront storage shed at the Olivet Blue Mountain Camp, near Hamburg, and built a larger shed to accommodate and protect equipment used by campers.

John M. Pietrowski Jr., 18, son of John M. Sr. and Joanne M. Pietrowski, Centre Township, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned and conducted a ceremony to properly dispose of more than 1,000 American flags. The event was held at the Jesuit Novitiate in Wernersville.

Richard J. Kline, 19, son of Donald A. and Barbara H. Kline, Spring Township, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he organized the clean-up of the Cope Course at Olivet’s Boys & Girls Club camp, near Hamburg. The project consisted of collecting trash and clearing overgrown weeds. A rope maze, used for group learning activities, was also renovated.

Jeremy D. Schwenk, 18, son of Charles M. and Abby M. Schwenk, Wyomissing, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he supervised the building of a batter’s box and pitcher’s mound at Holy Name High School. The project benefited several baseball programs.

Stephen L. Bonino, 18, son of Lawrence N. and Shari E. Bonino, Wyomissing, has received the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout service project, he built a practice pitching mound and a foundation for a concession stand/shed at the baseball field at Wyomissing Hills Elementary School.

Texas
Buck John, son of Peggy Cornelius and Curt John of Jefferson, grandson of Olar Merle Brown of Jefferson, and Charlotte John of Hallsville, received the Eagle Scout award in a ceremony recently at First Baptist Church. Buck raised funds to purchase 240 smoke detectors for the Community Services of Northeast Texas Meals on Wheels clients and 206 for other needy families. Mark Hanna, representing the Insurance Council of Texas, held a press conference in Jefferson to present Buck with a donation of 160 smoke detectors. Buck led two teams of scouts and volunteers to install smoke detectors to several of the families’ homes.
