Best friends Alyssa Marie Gogesch, left, and Allison Jean Montroy are Girl Scouts Gold Award recipients, the highest in Scouting. Alyssa belongs to Troop No. 60012 and is a senior at Westlake High School. She earned her award by collecting backpacks filled with supplies and sleeping bags for needy people at a mission in Mexico. Allison, also a WHS senior, belongs to Troop No. 60161 and earned her award by volunteering at the Kenneth Jernigan Library. She also collected books and helped Braille them for the blind. The Elks Lodge of Thousand Oaks presented the awards.

Tabitha Johnson, 17, second from left, presents Montgomery County Deputy Chaplain Ted Denny, left, Al Ansley, Clarksville Police Chief, and Sonja Mallory, Child Service Manager for Education for the CMCCAA Headstart, with 1,727 stuffed animals she collected as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. The project took about a month with the help of four local businesses, school bus drivers and individuals.

Jacquelyn Ryan Cox, daughter of Jonnie Cox, has received her Girl Scout Gold Award. For her community service award, the Scout designed and installed a water system to the roof of the Creative Discovery Museum for easier plant watering. The project renovated an unused section of the roof, with the purpose of drawing more attention to the CDM’s bee exhibit by showing children the relationship between plants and bees.

Emily Keahey, 19, received the Gold Award, the highest honor in the Girl Scouts. Keahey, daughter of James and Julie Keahey of Austin, earned her award for her Suits for Success project. She helped disadvantaged and unemployed women who are searching for employment by collecting interview-appropriate clothing and creating a pamphlet of employment opportunities. Keahey collected more than 100 items of clothing and more than 50 pairs of shoes.

Rebecca Phinney has earned her Girl Scouts Gold Award, the highest honor available to scouts. The A&M Consolidated High School graduate earned the award for her project Families Helping Families. Phinney planned a family game night to raise awareness and support for Scotty’s House, The Gabriel Project and the Half-Pint Library.
